Visit to Liverpool Street IECC

HRUG’s committee was invited to the Integrated Electronic Control Centre near Liverpool Street. An impressive array of VDUs show the progress of all trains on their journeys to/from Liverpool Street and also the automatic route setting (ARS) system in action. Cab secure radio can be used if the signallers need to speak to the driver on a particular train.

One concern which struck the committee during the visit, was that since the introduction of ARS the signallers job seemed to have become largely monitoring. This could result in some deskilling. After all, a test match team must actively use their skill to maintain it, rather than just watch other matches. We may will be seeking comment from Railtrack about this issue.

WAGN’s Punctuality for April-June

Peak: April 71.3%, May 71.9%, June 70.4%
All-day: April 78.9%, May 79.5%, June 79.7%

These show that during the rush hour, there was almost a one-in-three chance of being more than 3 minutes late arriving at Liverpool Street. WAGN and Railtrack need to continue to work together to sort out why performance has dropped from 90% or better only a year ago.

Did You Know ...

... That groups of two, three and four adults can travel off-peak on WAGN services (and some other operators, too) for the price of two adults ?
