About HRUG

About the Harlow Rail User Group

The group was formed in February 2001 after the collapse of the national rail network in the aftermath of the Hatfield gauge corner cracking crisis.

The group founder members' aims include

1) To campaign for improved rail services for Harlow and to represent the concerns, opinions and aspirations of Harlow rail users. In particular we seek:

• Improved punctuality
• Less overcrowding
• Improved safety
• Better stations and facilities

2) To lobby for "joined-up" railways, yielding

• More through trains to more destinations
• Less buck-passing when problems arise

3) To promote environmental issues, such as

• Safe carriage of cycles on all services
• Better integration with local bus services
• Extension of bus services to later in the evening

In pursuit of these aims, we will

1) Hold regular meetings, inviting speakers from all aspects of the rail industry, including:

• Local train operating companies
• Regulatory authorities
• Railway infrastructure companies

2) Conduct passenger surveys on rail services

3) Launch campaigns on issues of concern to Harlow rail users

4) Undertake other activities that help promote our aims
